Deptford Creekside Charrette
The Deptford Creekside Charrette was an ambitious collaborative urban design project facilitated by Creative Process with the aim of generating a lasting vision for the unique and complex area around the Creek. The process was based on the National Charrette Institute method.
In July 2008, an expert design team of architects, urban planners, ecologists, sustainability experts and artists were brought together for a five day event, where feasible design ideas were developed and then tested at three public events using a series of short feedback loops. The process is based on consultation with key stakeholders, including residents, landowners, local businesses and community members who were all involved in providing responses to the design team's ideas.
A final review was held at the close of the event to present the final area plan, a proposal for how to make Deptford a more desirable and attractive place to live and work whilst retaining its originality. All of the people involved in the process were urged to sign a document, pledging support for the vision.
A Deptford Creekside Charrette Document is currently being produced, for distribution February 2009, which will contain all of the research outcomes of the Charrette.
