Lewisham Film Initiative
Lewisham Film Initiative has been supporting the emerging film community of the south east of London since 2003.
Established after a report by Creative Process and the Arts Service of Lewisham Council found a provision gap for film activity in the otherwise extensive cultural and artistic vision of the borough, LFI seeks to promote audience development, provide professional development and funding opportunities for young filmmakers, and stimulate investment in the local economy through location filming and company set-up.
LFI has engaged in collaborative ventures with national organisations, such as The National Film Theatre, to provide high-profile platforms for talented south East London filmmakers to showcase their work, as well as participating in events such as Women's Week, Made in Deptford and People's Day. Through the work of LFI, 20 local filmmaking companies have been funded, 300 film screenings in Lewisham have been supported, four new film clubs have been financed, and filmmakers have gone on to be awarded funding by Film London and the UK Film Council, and have been profiled in Screen International.
The project has been so successful that it has combined with Southwark and Lambeth to become Southern Exposure Film Fund, a shared pool of funding.
